A remake of "El agente topo" (2020)
Line of Events
Charles, who has retired, gets a new lease on life when he answers a private investigator ad and becomes an undercover investigator at a nursing home. Michael Schur was inspired to create "A Man On the Inside" after watching the Chilean documentary "The Mole Agent", he says, "The Mole Agent" documentary is powerful because it makes people feel something incredibly similar, regardless of age, ethnicity, or gender, and I would describe that feeling in a very reductive way: “I have to call my mom.” We tried to do a similar thing with our show with the tone: basically, does our show contribute to that feeling of wanting to call moms?
You get so invested that you just have to know what’s up!
Because we’re being honest, I’ll admit at first glance, I wasn’t sure this show would be remotely interesting to me, but somehow it managed to lure me in. All the characters are so easy to love and so identify with the person in your life.
My favorite quote from the show is “Every great thing in your life, in retrospect, seems like a miracle” Very poetic because it resonates with each of us
It’s also a gentle reminder that we’re all here trying to do the same thing, live and enjoy life, so we might as well do our best to get along, and especially be kind to each other. I’ll also admit that it was a little strange to see Ted Danson in this role, especially when you’re used to him as the Cheers character “Sam”; but very early on, “Charles” tugs at your heartstrings without leaving any sad reminders of “Sam.” A bittersweet but gentle reminder that “Father Time” is not a favorite.
It’s a great change of pace that doesn’t leave us feeling guilty about indulging in another “crime”; showing off
We hope you watch and recognize and empathize with the everyday challenges that some in our society, in their daily lives, face.
