Due to the subject matter of the film, the Hungarian government did not grant the film funding, so it had a small budget and crew
Line of Events
Abel is a high school student struggling to focus on his final exams and is hopelessly in love with his best friend Janka.
Most of the actors in it are friends of the writer-director, Gábor Reisz, students or teachers
Although the synopsis emphasizes a love story, the film is mostly about the problems of a divided society and how a small accident goes a long way when it becomes political.
All of this is beautifully embedded in a story of love, exams and family relationships set in the final stages of school
The story is very Hungarian, but it can be equally interesting for international audiences, especially those where political disagreements weigh on all parts of society.
I definitely recommend it (like Gábor Reisz’s two previous films)
The film was made on a very small budget, with practically no funding, but with a great cast and a captivating story that really makes you forget this fact.
